What happened to Fortnite Over the Years?

Fortnite was released in 2017, and since then, it has been spoken about and played by many young adults. Initially, the game was focused more on survival action game which was also known as Save The Fort.

The main idea of the game was that you build a fort and start shooting down your enemies to protect your fort. The game that had actually done the Battle Royale concept was done first on the year 26th of September 2017. In 2014 when they demonstrated how buildings could be built, and they used that effective concept and implemented it into Fortnite, which was released in 2017.

It was initially PUBG where we saw first saw the concept of many players competing against each other in an enclosed space. The one who wins or the team that wins gets the “Chicken Dinner.” Some say that Fortnite’s Battle Royale has been influenced by Pubg.

Around 100 players jump off a plane to an island which they reach without any weapons. They have to explore the area, and they might get weapons according to their liking. But here is something Fortnite has added, the players can build something to either take cover or attack someone from there. This idea of building something, as I had mentioned before, actually dates back to the first ideology of Fortnite.

There is unreleased footage from which we can see that there are four different building materials, and instead of an axe, they use a sledgehammer. We can see a huge update on the building materials as we are given four options, and they are floor, wall, stair, and cones.

As time progressed, many players got better and better. Many newcomers had become pros as they had spent a lot of time playing. Fortnite then released new chapters and new seasons over the years, but soon their number of players went down.

Epic Games removed the whole building feature from the game, but it was still there in the competitive mode. The reason they had to remove the building feature is that many people were not able to build properly in the game, and they just ended up rage-quitting the game, which was not a good thing for Epic Games.

Another reason they had to kind of tone it down, which is to remove the building feature, is because games like Call Of Duty: Warzone and Valorant were going to be released, and Epic Games did not want their fanbase to some other games. Streamers like Ninja, FaZe Clan, etc., had already left Fortnite and started with Apex Legends and Valorant.

Besides the building feature, there were many other things that were not done before, like emotes. They were there in other games, but unlocking rear emotes kind of a new concept when it came to games like these. Fortnite also had something called V-Bucks, which was in-game money that could have been purchased with real money.

Another cool thing added by Epic Games was the fact that they added new characters which were currently trending. It could be movies or anime, or anything else. If it is trending, then it is being added as a skin to Fortnite.

It has become so famous and globally well-known that it is part of esports now. Anyone in the world can now just participate in these competitions, and if they win, then they end up winning a huge cash prize. These events have made many youngest millionaires gamers.

Pros and Cons Of Fortnite

Fortnite has been there for a very long time, and it still remains to be one of the most famous games, but right now, it is mainly known for its Battle Royale. There are many positives and negatives to this game.Starting with negatives, many kids took their parent’s credit cards and spent a huge amount of money on V-Bucks. It opposed a huge threat many times.

The parents did not get a refund. Even though the game is rated T for teens, many youngsters do play the game, and that affects their brains. There are, of course, glitches in the game, but all games do have them. The shooting mechanism is not as great as many think it to be. Going through the map and collecting resources kind of seemed tiring. There are too many in-app purchases.

Even for emotes and skins, there are purchases. Some players can make in-app purchases that make it easier for them to win, making some believe that they can win games by paying instead of their skills. The open chat feature is not monitored, so anyone can be exposed to any sort of thing, but with a later update, it has been monitored by StatusGator.

It was available on iOS but got kicked out of the App Store due to them trying to get away without paying a 30% commission to Apple, and it was also removed from the Google Play store. A few players feel that they are being restricted by being given only 4 items to build out of instead of a few more and given the player to customize their choices.

Other players feel that this does not compete well with other Battle Royales such as Pubg, Apex Legends, Call Of Duty: Warzone, etc.Now coming to the positives, this seemed like a cheaper alternative to Pubg as back then, Pubg was paid, and Fortnite was for free. People with almost the lowest of the lowest specs could also play this on their PC or any other console.

Even if the consoles are different, there is a cross-platform.There is faster matchmaking in Fortnite than in other games, as they have a huge number of players at all times. Epic Games makes sure to update its maps and the game mechanics to keep everything up to date.

The building feature also makes players creative and also use their critical thinking. It was a great game to make sure that there was great teamwork and the capability to think on his or her feet. This was also a great form of making new friends for introverts.

Epic Games makes sure to listen to its players. They have always made sure to fix issues that a certain group of players was facing with software patch updates. Many people miss out on the visuals of the game, but that is something truly amazing once played with decent specs or on consoles.

Our Verdict

Overall, Fortnite has a mixture of all positives and negatives, but it surely does make an amazing game. I think that some of the thunder that was there in the game initially has gone, but it is still a great game to play with your friends in 2023. If you are starting to game for the first time and want to play Battle Royale, this would be the right game to start with.

Our Rating: ⭐ (3.5/5).
