<![CDATA[Chickasha Express Star: All Categories]]> (7)

Dr. Eddie Ray Stewart, fondly known as Ed to his friends and loved ones, embarked on his final adventure on May 1, 2024, after a life as vibrant and full of energy as the storms he loved to watch from his porch. Born on January 20, 1949, the youngest of five children, in Ardmore, OK, Ed's journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and a touch of that Stewart analytical genius.Ed's early days at Wilson High School set the stage for what would be a lifetime of achievements. It was there where he became an All-State football legend and Salutatorian of the class of 1967. He began his college career at the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of the football team. He then transferred to East Central University to complete his studies, a foreshadowing of his future draft into the NFL. He was drafted to the Cleveland Browns. But Ed was more than just brawn; after hanging up his cleats, he returned to Oklahoma where he taught physical education at Ada High School. Ed had a passion for education. He then continued his studies in medical school at the Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery. His intellect shone bright, much like his personality, leading him to a cherished career as a family physician. Before he was Dr. Stewart, the healer, he was Ed, the physical education teacher at Ada High School. Here, he taught countless young minds the importance of a healthy lifestyle, all while probably scoring more touchdowns during faculty games than anyone else. Ed's love for football never waned, and you could often find him shouting at the TV during game days, analyzing plays with the precision of a seasoned coach.Ed's love for sports was only matched by his love for the great outdoors. He was the kind of man who could out-fish any fisherman, with the patience of a saint and a tackle box that seemed more like a magician's hat. There was something about the tranquility of the water that resonated with his soul, a peaceful counterbalance to the roar of a football stadium.Family was the cornerstone of Ed's life. During his internship at Hillcrest Hospital in Oklahoma City, he met the love of his life, Vicki. They married in 1979 and they shared a wonderful 41 years of marriage. He was the proud father of Dr. Linzi Stewart-Crawford, who, along with her husband Sean, blessed him with the joy of being a grandfather to Marli LaRue and Vale Ru. His son, Cole, continued the family legacy with Kaden Cole and Maci Rae.Ed was a fun dad. Whether he was coaching Cole's T-ball team or saddling up the ponies for all the children to ride, he was present. He loved spending countless weekends at Cedar Blue fishing and taking all the kids tubing on Lake of the Arbuckles. He also had a love for horses. He loved breeding his own race horses and watching them run at the race track. He made certain that he always provided green pastures for his horses to retire. He loved to teach his children about the races. He would take Linzi & Cole to Tully's Bakery late at night to grab the next day's race program. They would also get to grab a warm glazed donut. He taught them how to study the horses, the breeds, and how to place bets. He would also go cast their bets for them at the window. Ed also thought of the days of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes as they were cherished holidays in the Stewart household. He also had the honor of hooding his daughter at her medical school graduation.Ed has been reunited with many family members in heaven. These include his parents, Ottis and Opal Stewart, Lester & Doyle Stewart (brothers), Vicki Stewart(ex-wife), and Shirley Stewart (sister-in-law) Ed is survived by his daughter, Dr. Linzi Stewart-Crawford, her husband, Sean, and their children, Marli & Vale, Cole (son) and his children, Kaden & Maci, Tommy Joe (brother), Irene Jones (sister) and her husband, Tommy, Marcia Stewart (sister-in-law), & Carol Stewart (sister-in-law). Let's not forget many of some of his greatest cheerleaders and benchwarmers that are numerous nieces and nephews. Many of his nieces and nephews endured good-natured pestering during their younger years.Ed's infectious laughter and larger-than-life personality made every family gathering an event to remember. He was the loving uncle who would entertain his nieces and nephews with tales of his gridiron glory days, always with a twinkle in his eye and never letting the truth get in the way of a good story. As a man who could find humor in the mundane, Ed's approach to life was simple: live fully, love deeply, and laugh often. He was known for his quick wit and the ability to dissect a situation with the precision of a physician. When the skies darkened and the winds picked up, Ed was in his element. Watching storms move in from the comfort of his porch was a pastime that brought him great joy. It was during these moments that one could see the reflection of his personality in the untamed beauty of nature - powerful, awe-inspiring, and always with an underlying warmth. He leaves behind a legacy of love, intelligence, and an analytical mind that could solve any problem, whether it was diagnosing an illness or determining if that fish on the line was really "the big one" this time. His departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit remains an indelible part of the lives he touched.Dr. Eddie Ray Stewart may have left the field, but his legacy remains as vibrant as a Friday Night Light. So, as we bid farewell to Ed, let's imagine him sitting on that great porch in the sky, watching the mother of all storms roll in, with a fishing rod in one hand and a football in the other, the eternal coach, physician, and lifetime learner all rolled into one. Here's to you, Dr. Eddie Ray; may your laughter continue to echo in our hearts. His celebration of life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Crawford Funeral Services in Edmond, OK, with Bro. Jody Jones officiating, and under the direction of Crawford Funeral Services.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on 2024-05-10 at Crawford Funeral Service, 610 NW 178th St. Edmond, OK 73012.

<![CDATA[Chickasha Express Star: All Categories]]> (12)

Malea Marie Smith (Morris) was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on February 22nd, 1956 to Delmar Ray Smith, from whom she got her love of animals, and Violet Darlene Buffer. She grew up in Petaluma, California where she learned to love the ocean and rock music. She received her bachelor's degree in Criminology from University of California Santa Barbara after going through both lung cancer and dying (and being resuscitated) in a car accident during her time there. Her early dream was to be a police officer. After moving back to Oklahoma with family she met Gary Morris and had two children, Lynsie and Rory Morris. She applied to be an officer after working as a dispatcher at the Bethany Police Department, but was mocked and dismissed for being a woman, despite being a well qualified applicant. She settled a gender discrimination lawsuit against the department, and used the money to buy land and move to Chickasha, where she would spend the next 40 years. She worked at the Grady County Sheriff's Office for many years as a dispatcher but switched careers after encountering more sexism in law enforcement. She earned her second bachelor's degree in social work at USAO while raising two children as a single parent and working full time, and took a job at the Department of Human Services where she excelled for 26 years. From TANF cases to child welfare, child support to adult protective services, she loved making a difference in people's lives. What was most important in life was her love for animals and her children. From her actual kids, to her many fur babies, to the kids she was not blood related to but adopted as her own sons and daughters, niblings, and grandbabies, Malea loved her extended family with everything and loved giving gifts and writing letters and cards to a long list of people. In 2016 her favorite person, her grandson Elias Morris, was born, and she retired as soon as she could to spend more time with him. In 2023 she finally realized her dream of returning to what she considered her home state, making a beautiful home on a property with her sister in the mountains outside Nevada City, California. She passed away at that home unexpectedly on January 31st, 2024. She is survived by her children and grandchildren Lynsie Morris, Micah Heath, Elias Morris and Trae Heath of OKC and Rory Morris of California, her sister Melissa Funk of California and niblings Alyssa Funk, Amanda Romash, Mac Baldner, and Eric Fox. Her wide network of chosen family includes the Rawsons of Chickasha, the Love Family of Seattle, and many more across the country.A memorial service/celebration of life will be held March 23rd, 2024 at The Social Room in Blanchard at 4:30PM. In lieu of flowers please donate to the OK Humane Society or your local animal shelter.

Tom Lambrecht, 85, passed into the kingdom of God on February 9, 2024. He was born January 5, 1939, to William and Alice Lambrecht. Tom, faithful husband, loving father and grandfather, is survived by his wife Robyn Lambrecht; his two sons, Mark (wife, Amy) and Brad (wife, Sunny); his grandsons, Aidan, Jack, and Patrick; and his granddaughter Erica. He married his beloved wife Robyn when he was twenty-four, and they spent sixty-one wonderful years together. He attended the University of Oklahoma, finishing with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. After graduation, he worked for International Harvester as an engineer in Springfield, Ohio, and Fort Wayne, Indiana. After the birth of his son Mark, he and Robyn moved back to Oklahoma, this time settling in Norman, and purchased an International Harvester truck dealership. Eventually selling the dealership, he opened a used truck business (B&T Truck & Tractor). After retiring, he "relaxed" into the role of farmer, overseeing seven hundred acres growing crops, watching deer frolic, and hunting wild hogs, sometimes successfully.Tom embodied the characteristics of a good man, encouraged to good works by his faith in the Lord. He was independent but caring, stern but gentle, with a story for every occasion. He had a heart for others, and an overflowing enthusiasm and desire to pour into and care for his family and friends. No one left a conversation with him without a smile, good advice, and just enough good-natured teasing. He was a dedicated member of the Westside Church of Christ, and it was a rare Sunday that he could not be seen gracing the pews and steering the younger generation toward a better direction.Tom was a man who truly spoke the truth in love, unafraid of conflict, ready to meet life head on. He deeply loved his family, and his rough but selfless attitude blessed countless people throughout his life. His departure leaves a deep wound in the hearts of all who knew him, but the memory of his life and the hope of his salvation is a comfort and joy to his family.Graveside services were held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Alex Cemetery in Alex, OK. <![CDATA[Chickasha Express Star: All Categories]]> (31)

Danny Bartell Johnson, of Ninnekah, Oklahoma, born August 7, 1934 in Conroe, Texas, died of natural causes at his home early Wednesday morning, January 3, 2024.Johnson was a carpenter and a builder. His great joy in life was working with his hands, and this special talent took him far and wide, earning him a living as well as a reputation as a dependable handyman. He was the first in his family to attain a college degree, attending University of Texas, and later University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO), studying advanced math and business.Though generally a man of few words, he was worth listening to when he talked, and you could always count on his dry sense of humor for a laugh. He liked to tell stories of his humble beginnings in East Texas, sharing a single bedroom with his six brothers, while his only sister had a room all to herself.Once old enough, he set out on his own and spent his youth traveling the world - building stages in New York City, surveying in Alaska, and getting to know Europe from his military station in Germany. On returning to Texas, he worked at NASA and also as a contractor for various builders in Conroe.By middle age, he met his wife Lauren Johnson and moved with her to Ninnekah, Okla. to build a life in the country. He maintained a rigorous work ethic, waking every day at the crack of dawn to feed the farm animals. Only after morning chores were complete would he return home for breakfast and a cup of black coffee before making the half hour drive into town for work. He retired with a pension from the U.S. Postal Service. He liked gardening, and had a soft spot for homegrown tomatoes, collards, and speckled butter beans. In true southern fashion, he could whip up a mean cornbread, and paired it both with pintos for dinner and sorghum molasses for dessert.Although he spent most of his life working with numbers, he also enjoyed reading, and was known to quote Shakespeare and other poetry on occasion. As a devoted husband, he spent his later years renovating and expanding on the house he owned with Lauren. He was handy to a fault - working long hours, fixing whatever needed fixing, and often volunteering his time to family and people in town who needed his services. As a grandfather, he was playful and patient, taking his grandkids to feed the horses and letting them ride in the back of his Chevy pickup.Fond of animals, he was a caretaker of the land and the creatures that lived on it. He fed many mouths through the years - dogs and cats, horses and ponies, chickens and roosters, not to mention raccoons - and he was the only human friend to a certain salty Charlie Puddleduck. He is preceded in death by wife Lauren (Berta Lee) Johnson; his father Beecher Jones Johnson and mother Jessie Swift Johnson (née Melson); brothers Lewis Walker Johnson, James Durwood Johnson, B.J. Johnson, William Robert Johnson, Jesse Carl Johnson, and Jerry Lynn Johnson; and half brothers and sisters Maurice Johnson, Marcella Johnson, Hortense Johnson and H.B. Johnson. He is survived by sister Nancy Sue Johnson; niece Louann Moore Hallock and her husband; nephew David Moore, his wife Brenda and David's children Jason Moore, Chelsea Greenhouse, and Shelley Moore. <![CDATA[BIDELSPACH, Truman]]>https://obituaries.chickashanews.com/obituary/truman-bidelspach-1089223233<![CDATA[

Truman Oscar Bidelspach (65) passed away peacefully at home in Chickasha, OK on December 24, 2023, after a sudden decline in health while bravely battling cancer for a second time in his life.Friends and family are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at First Baptist Church in Amber, OK on December 29, 2023, at 1pm. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A donation page in honor of Truman can be found at https://diy.lls.org/truman. Services are under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.Truman was born on September 8, 1958, to Benjamin and Norma Bidelspach in Sunbury, PA. The youngest of four children, Truman was fascinated by how machines work and early on forged a lifelong love of cars and all things mechanical. A hard worker from the start, Truman got his first job at the age of 13, working at a local butcher shop and by his late teens he was working as a disc jockey at a local radio station and a guitarist for his sister Shirley's backup band. He graduated from Selinsgrove High School and his childhood could be summed up as a happy one filled with family, friends, adventure, and a healthy amount of mischief. In 1978, he married Ann Malcolm, and within the first three years of marriage they welcomed their first son Truman (TAB) and their second son Nicholas (Nick) into the world. During this chapter of Truman's life, he pursued his passion for automobiles and opened several auto body businesses in central Pennsylvania. Subsequently, God had a different plan for Truman leading him to take up the mantle of civil service and start what became a career with the Department of Justice (DoJ). After a significant training period, he relocated his family to Chickasha, OK and in 1989 they welcomed their daughter Stephanie into the family. His career took the family back to the east coast where Truman excelled in the intelligence field within the Bureau of Prisons attaining the rank of Special Investigative Agent. While serving in this capacity, he was instrumental in designing and testing the physical security aspects of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, NY. God intervened again and the family headed back to Oklahoma. Truman's new role placed him in a pivotal position where he was a key member of the team responsible for making the newly built Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City operational. In 2002, he married Mary Glass, bringing Brian, Cameron, and Melody to the family and they set out to combine two wonderful families into one. With Mary by his side and two kids still at home, they actively participated in school sporting events, band competitions, and opportunities to serve through their church. In 2009, Truman retired from the Bureau of Prisons after an exemplary 23 years of service. Retirement was both a welcome blessing and a daunting amount of free time, but between various projects he kept himself busy. Over the next several years their family was blessed with total of 14 grandchildren and a house filled with love and laughter. During their time together Mary and Truman enjoyed traveling. Whether it was to a remote part of Oklahoma or across the country, the sense of adventure was still a huge component of their lives.Truman was known to many as the guy who could help. His many interests, expertise, and servant's heart led him to befriend and/or mentor all he encountered. He loved to help people and would lend a hand at a moment's notice. He also took great joy in cooking for others, and one could say that was his love language. His hobbies were numerous, but his love for music was vast, between playing guitar and listening to genres ranging from classical to traditional Christian hymns to bluegrass to jazz to rock, Truman was never far from an instrument or a radio. When quizzed about a song, he could tell you the title, artist, album, and usually the band lineup or some other uniquely obscure fact about the artist or band. Most of all, he loved his family. At the end of the day, family brought him the most joy, especially his grandkids.Truman is preceded in death by his parents, Norma & Benjamin Bidelspach; father-in-law, Cliff Hartman; brother-in-law, John Treese; sister-in-law, Kristina Haynes; niece, Heather Bidelspach.Truman is survived by his loving wife, Mary; mother-in-law, Evelyn Hartman; siblings: Ben (Cathy) Bidelspach, Shirley Treese, Harry (Joann) Bidelspach, Rebecca Parish, Timmy Parish; children: Truman (Penny) Bidelspach, Brian (Dani) Glass, Nick (Kathy) Bidelspach, Stephanie (Patton) Graves, Cameron (Jessica) Glass; grandchildren: Melody Glass, Truman X Bidelspach, Emma Bidelspach, Avery Bidelspach, Ian Bidelspach, Victoria Bidelspach, Hudson Bidelspach, Owen Bidelspach, Harper Glass, Sterling Bidelspach, Charlotte Bidelspach, Sophia Glass, Isaac Glass, and Korben Glass; numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

They married in 1959 and celebrated their lives together for the next 64 years. Logan and Mary raised two daughters, Robyn Colleen and Mykel Shaun. Robyn and her family live in Northwest Arkansas. She is married to William Henry (Hank) Breshears and has two daughters, Jennifer Lynne and Elizabeth Anne, who also live in Northwest Arkansas. Jennifer is married to Clayton Wormington and they have two children, Connor and Brooklyn. Elizabeth is married to Zach Hutcheson and they have one son, Ezra James. Mykel, her lifelong partner Rick Ferguson, and her family live in Oklahoma City. She has three children, Cody Logan, Christopher Garrett and Rebecca Leigh, all who live in Oklahoma City. Cody and his wife Meagan have three children, Kennedi, Kael and Logan. Garrett is married to Chandler. Both Cody and Becca followed their grandfather's footsteps and serve in the Oklahoma City Police Department. Logan is predeceased by his parents, LJ and Edna, grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Logan is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and best friend Bob Jordan. He is also survived by his brother, sister and many nieces and nephews. Logan joined the Oklahoma City Police Department in 1960 where he devoted 21 years to serve and protect the citizens of Oklahoma City. Over the course of his career, Logan worked in various units including the Signal 30 unit (incidents involving vehicular death), motorcycle and traffic units. He ultimately achieved the rank of Sergeant and was a supervisor for the larceny, vice and patrol units. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #123. Logan was also recognized as an expert in traffic accident reconstruction after attending a year-long course at the Northwestern Traffic Institute in Chicago, Illinois. In September 1981, he retired from the Department making it the first of three. Following his career in the police department, Logan worked and retired from Ryder Corporation and then Allied Corporation. Logan loved to spend time with his family and friends. His passion was golf and he spent hundreds of hours on the golf course either playing or shagging golf balls in the deep woods. Many times sacrificing his arms and legs with scrapes, cuts and bruises. Logan loved to read, work crossword puzzles, listen to a plethora of eclectic music and sometimes sing out loud with his headphones on. He had a horrible tin ear much to the chagrin of all within listening distance, including the dog, Fred. Logan taught the girls how to dance and how to drive like a cop. Logan and Mary enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. They spent a lot of time teaching the girls and grandchildren to play as well. Logan was so competitive that the rules might change when the opportunity arose. He was a source of knowledge, humor, advice, counsel and a big ole hug when needed. He was compassionate and generous with his time and oftentimes his money for those in need. Logan was the patriarch of our family, loved by all and sorely missed.
