Visiting Vet: Aslan in his old age »
Wed, 08 May 2024 14:10:25 -0400 | via Martha's Vineyard Times
When I was in veterinary school, long, long ago, I had a professor who used to say, “Old age is not a disease.” What he meant was that when evaluating senior animals who weren’t doing well, we shouldn’t just dismiss it as “old age.” We should look for what system in the body was no longer working properly. Kidney failure, heart failure, arthritis, cancer. Not just to write off the elderly, but to figure out how we could fix them, or at least improve their quality of life. I have repeated…

“We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.” –Cynthia Ozick That seems like a great quote for Mother’s Day, because who gets more taken for granted than mothers? It’s kind of by design. Mothers work hard behind the scenes, hoping to give their children what they need to go forward into their own lives, and find success and happiness. They don’t do it for applause, and they actually don’t want any spotlight on them. That is because mothers are just…

The last chance to buy nips on the Island was on Tuesday, and up to the deadline, liquor stores were trying to sell off their stock of nips before the ban went into effect. At some store counters, the less popular nip bottles were on sale — with popular brands like Fireball already sold out.
