In my dream scenario, a false rumor that the company is planning to file for bankruptcy drives the share price down to a quarter and as everybody is unloading their shares, Amarin gobbles up 200 million shares rather than the 50 million shares it could get if it could buy the shares for $1 or a little less. With only 200 million shares left on the market, our shares would be worth so much more than if the company can only buy back somewhere between 20 million and 50 million shares. So I want the company to buy back shares at the lowest price possible so it can pocket as many as it can.

But often, companies get permission to buy back tens of millions of shares and sit on it, deciding only to buy back a portion, maybe 5 million shares. So we might all be wrong to think that Amarin will go out and buy back $50 million worth of shares, just because it can.
