旅程9日目

可愛い姪の結婚式も無事終わり

日本滞在も残すところ1週間となった。

時間が経つのは本当に早い。

楽しければ尚更だ。

横浜のホテルをチェックアウト

その後は丸一日

関東方面を楽しんでからの

大移動が待っている。

横須賀からフェリーに乗って

北九州へ行くのだ。

フェリーが出航するのは

ほぼ真夜中の11:45pm

故にタップリ時間がある。

スーツケースはホテルに預け

まずは両親のお墓参りのため

電車に乗って神奈川県の地元へ向かう。

晴天の暑い日だった。

父には冷たいミルク入りの

美味しそうなコーヒー飲料

母と我々にはキンキンに冷えたビールを

駅近のビルで買う。

『両親と一杯やりたい』

これは夫の提案であった。

グッドアイデア！

墓前で飲むなど

不謹慎と思う人もいるかもしれないが

これは故人の個性によるところもあると思う。

きっと両親は喜ぶはず。

だがコーヒー好きの父に

ビールのオプションも付ければ良かったと

少しだけ心残りとなる。

父はあまり飲む方ではなかったが

付き合いたかったかもしれない。

ニュージーランドから持って来ていた

父の好きだったチョコレート菓子等も

墓前に供えた。

自分達だけでのお墓参りは初めてのことである。

見よう見まねで

用意された桶に水を汲み花と線香を買った。

確か墓石に水をかけて掃除するはず

たまたま持っていたハンドタオルも使い

墓石を磨く。

こういう時夫は率先して動いてくれるのが

ありがたい。

サッとではあったが

艶々とお墓が気持ち良さそうに輝いている。

お墓参りとは不思議なのもので

何故か清々しい気持ちをいただける。

だがしかしお供え物は

置いて行って良いのだろうか？

Lineで姉弟に相談すると

栓を開けていない飲み物はOKだそうだが

食べ物はカラスが来るのでダメらしい。

せっかくNZから持って来たので

チョコレート達は

併設されたメモリアルホールの

スタッフの方に受け取っていただいた。

その後は東京方面へ移動。

夫の希望で赤穂浪士の墓参りだ。

泉岳寺へ向かう。

この人と結婚していなければ

泉岳寺へは一生行くことなど

無かったかもしれない。

厳かなお寺と大都会のコントラストが

ユーモラスである。

ここでも線香の束を買った。

47 Ronin なのでお墓も47つなのだろうか。

その沢山のお墓の1つ1つに

少しずつお線香を置いていくのが流儀らしい。

その後は泉岳寺駅周辺を少し歩いて

たまたま見つけた日本食レストランでランチ

フラッと入っても安くて美味しい

さすが日本である。

ランチ後はさらに歩いて

無駄に一駅遠くから地下鉄に乗る。

横須賀から北九州に行った後は

小倉に一泊するところまでしか

旅程は組んでいないが

東京方面でのんびりできるのは

この日が最後かもしれない。

横浜へも戻りやすく　

何となく知ってる街渋谷へ向かう。

だがしかし渋谷は変わり過ぎていた。

人の多さにも疲れてしまう。

本が見たいという夫の為

TSUTAYAへ行っただけでヘトヘトである。

東京はもう良い横浜へ戻ろう。

そして今回の滞在中3度目となる　

みなとみらいへ向かう我々。

そこではたまたま見かけた

大道芸人のパフォーマンスを堪能。

ビデオもいっぱい撮ったのだが

最後の方でパフォーマーから

SNSへのアップ禁止令が出た。

ご本人のポリシーなので仕方ない。

禁止令発令以降撮影は一切せず

純粋にパフォーマンスを楽しめたので

良かったとする。

その後みなとみらいの夜景を楽しみながら

食事ができるようなレストランを探すが

ここも週末であることには変わりない。

良さげな所は長蛇の列か

オークランドにも負けない高額店のみで

尻込みしてしまう。

時間もまだたっぷりあるのだが

横須賀周辺については未知の世界である。

何となくサッサと食事を済ませて

移動しておいた方が良い気がして来た。

そんなこんなでみなとみらいから

横浜駅西口周辺へ移動するが

そこも週末の大混雑中。

荷物を預けているホテル近くのVivre屋上に

ビアガーデンがあるらしいことを発見。

エレベーターで屋上へ向かう。

だがしかしその夜ビアガーデンでは

若者ばかりが集うイベントの真最中だった。

受付の女の子が一応説明してくれるのだが

これは日本語なのか？と疑うくらい

何も頭に入って来ない。

とにかく食べ物はあまりなく

男性のみ一律で入場料があるらしい。

せっかくここまで来たので

それでも良いからと入れて貰った。

しかし結局男性限定入場料を

どこで払うかも分からず

食べ物の選択肢は驚くほど少なかった。

ビール二つとホットドック二つを買い

空いてるテーブルを見つけ胃に流し込む。

アウェイ感を拭えぬまま早急に

退散する二人。

フェリー乗り場やフェリー乗船後でも

食事ができることは分かっていたので

ここでお腹一杯にする必要はない。

ホテルで荷物をピックアップした後は

駅までタクシーで行くと夫が言い出した。

荷物を持ってこれ以上歩きたくないらしい。

とは言えホテルから駅まで徒歩5分の距離である。

取り敢えずホテルの方に

タクシーを呼んでもらうが

運転手さんがとても良い方だったので

申し訳なさ過ぎて横須賀へ行きやすい

横浜の次の駅とお願いして

保土ヶ谷まで行ってもらった。

横須賀に着いた時は

もう9時を回っていたと思う。

東京・横浜の週末の喧騒とは打って変わって

そこは焦るほど静かである。

タクシー乗り場には先客が1組いるのだが

中々タクシーが来る気配はない。

バスが来たので

私1人で走って行って運転手さんに

フェリー乗り場まで行くか聞いてみたが

答えはＮｏだった。

割と近くまでは行くが　近くで降りてから

そこそこ歩かないといけないらしい。

タクシー乗り場に戻ると

ちょうど前の方達のタクシーが

来たところだった。

その方達に聞いたのだが

タクシーは待っていても直ぐには来ないらしい。

この方達もそのことに気付き

電話で予約したそうだ。

なるほど　予約かと思っていると

運が良いことに　

次のタクシーが続けて来て

何とかフェリー乗り場に辿り着くことができた。

フェリーターミナルはまだ新しく奇麗で

意外に人が多かった。

「くぼたび」というアラサー夫婦が

ＹｏｕＴｕｂｅで紹介していたのを見て

絶対乗ってみたいと思っていた横須賀発の

東京北九州フェリーである。

ターミナルには

『横須賀海軍のカレーパン』が売られていた。

名前だけで食べたくなり

ビールとカレーパンを二つずつ買うが

夜遅いこともあり胃もたれ気味で完食ならず。

残りは夫が喜んで食べてくれた。

そう言えば結婚式の日に貰ってしまった

飛行機代の件であるが

前日Lineで弟に聞いた際は

一瞬　既読スルーされたかに見えた。

だがしかし翌日になって弟から

『？』とだけ返信があった。

こっちの方が『？』である。

とぼけているのかと思ったら

本当に知らなかったようで

「Sじゃない？」と姪の名前を出す。

もしも姪なら尚のこと返さなければならない。

姪の兄にあたるＴちゃんと

昨日結婚式を挙げた姪のＳちゃん両方に

Ｌｉｎｅを送ると両方とも白状した。

犯人（?）は本当に姪のＳちゃんだったのだ。

実はこの姪のSちゃんが

オークランドに来た時は

私が姪の飛行機代を出していた。

ウチの家族は口では行く行くと言いながら

両親と当時幼かったその初孫以外

誰もオークランドに来ていなかったのだ。

仕方なく私は姪や甥を1人ずつ招ぶという

キャンペーンを始めた。

私もそれほど頻繁に

日本に帰っていなかったこともあり

姪や甥にお年玉をあげた記憶が無いので

長年蓄積したお年玉の替わりにと

思いついたのだ。

1人目の時は父もまだ健在だったので

父を連れて来てもらうのが目的の1つだった。

長年の老々介護からやっと解放された父に

のんびりして欲しかったのだ。

2人目以降は父は施設に入ってしまい

渡航はできない状態となった。

そして3人目に来てくれたのがＳちゃんだった。

Ｓちゃんはその時の恩も返したいと

20代の女の子とは思えない大胆な額を

封筒に入れてその兄に託したのだ。

恐ろしい子-

『こっちが叔母なんだから

気持ちだけ貰っておく。

お金は返すから』と言うと

「だったら

お金は取り敢えず預かっておいて

私とＫ君（新郎）とお父さんが

ＮＺに行く時に使って」という。

本当にこの娘は一体誰の血を引いたのだ...。

ご祝儀の倍返しをされたからには

更に倍返ししなければならないではないか！

あ…そういうことか（笑）

我が姪ながら

この娘は大物になるに違いないと思う。

叔母バカ全開である。

Day 9 of the trip

My favorite niece's wedding has come to an end. And there is only one week left of our stay in Japan.

Time flies.

And it's even more so when you're having fun.

We checked out of the hotel in Yokohama

After that, we had a full day of fun in the Kanto area.

And then we moved on.

We took a ferry from Yokosuka to Kitakyushu.

The ferry left at 11:45 pm, almost midnight, so we had plenty of time.

We left our suitcases at the hotel

And first, we took the train to my hometown in Kanagawa Prefecture to visit our parents' graves.

It was a sunny, hot day.

We bought a delicious-looking iced coffee with milk for my father, and ice-cold beer for my mother and us at a building near the station.

"We want to have a drink with your parents," was my husband's suggestion.

Great idea!

Some people might think it's inappropriate to drink in front of a grave, but I think it depends on the personality of the deceased.

I'm sure my parents will be happy.

I regret that I didn't add a beer option for my father, who liked coffee.

My father wasn't much of a drinker, but maybe he wanted to join us.

We also brought some chocolate sweets from New Zealand, which he liked, to offer at the grave.

It was our first time visiting a grave by ourselves.

I learned by watching what others did and filled the bucket with water and bought flowers and incense.

I'm sure you clean the gravestone by pouring water on it.

I also used a hand towel that happened to be with me to polish the gravestone.

I'm grateful that my husband takes the initiative at times like this.

It was a quick visit, but the gravestone was shining brightly and looked comfortable.

Visiting a grave is a strange thing, but it gives you a refreshing feeling for some reason.

But is it okay to leave offerings?

I asked my siblings on Line, and they said that unopened drinks are okay, but food is not, as it attracts crows.

Since we brought the chocolates from NZ, the staff at the memorial hall on the premises accepted them.

After that, we moved towards Tokyo.

At my husband's request, we visited the graves of the Ako Roshi.

We headed to Sengaku-ji Temple.

If I hadn't married this person, I might never have gone to Sengaku-ji Temple.

The contrast between the solemn temple and the big city is humorous.

We also bought a bundle of incense sticks here.

I wonder if there are 47 graves because there are 47 Ronin.

It seems that it is customary to place a little incense stick on each of the many graves.

After that, we walked a little around Sengaku-ji Station and had lunch at a Japanese restaurant we happened to find. It was cheap and delicious even if we just popped in. As expected of Japan.

After lunch, we walked some more and took the subway one stop further away.

After going to Kitakyushu from Yokosuka, our itinerary only included a night in Kokura, but this may be the last day we can relax in the Tokyo area.

We headed to Shibuya, a town I knew somehow, so it was easy to go back to Yokohama.

But Shibuya had changed too much.

The crowds were exhausting.

My husband wanted to read a book, so we went to TSUTAYA and were exhausted.

Enough about Tokyo, let's go back to Yokohama.

And then we headed to Minato Mirai for the third time during this stay.

There, we happened to see a street performer and enjoyed his performance.

I took a lot of videos, but the performer ordered us not to upload them to social media at the end.

It can't be helped, as it's his personal policy.

I didn't take any videos after the ban was issued, and we were able to enjoy the performance purely, so we called it a good thing.

After that, we looked for a restaurant where we could eat while enjoying the night view of Minato Mirai, but it was still the weekend.

The only good places we could find were either long lines or expensive restaurants that rivaled those in Auckland, so we hesitated.

We still had plenty of time, but the area around Yokosuka was still an unknown world to us.

I somehow felt like we should just get our meal done and get going.

So we moved from Minato Mirai to the area around the west exit of Yokohama Station, but it was also crowded with people on the weekend.

We discovered that there was a beer garden on the roof of Vivre, near the hotel where we had left our luggages.

We took the elevator to the roof.

However, that night at the beer garden, an event was taking place, attracting only young people.

The girl at the reception tried to explain things to me, but I couldn't understand anything, to the point that I wondered if she was speaking Japanese.

Anyway, there wasn't much food, and it seemed like there was a flat admission fee for men only.

I thought it was fine, since we had come all the way here.

However, we couldn’t find where to pay the men's admission fee, and there were surprisingly few food options.

We bought two beers and two hot dogs, found an empty table, and poured them into our stomachs.

The two of us quickly left, unable to shake the feeling of being out of place.

We knew we could eat at the ferry terminal and after boarding the ferry, so there was no need to fill our stomachs here.

After picking up our luggages at the hotel, my husband said we should take a taxi to the station.

He didn't want to walk any further with our luggages.

However, it was only a 5-minute walk from the hotel to the station.

We asked the hotel to call a taxi for us, but the driver was very nice, so we asked him to take us to the next station after Yokohama, which was an easy way to get to Yokosuka, and he took us to Hodogaya.

It was already past 9 o'clock when we arrived in Yokosuka.

In stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and Yokohama on weekends, it was so quiet that it was almost frightening.

There was one other group at the taxi stand, but there was no sign of a taxi coming.

When the bus came, I ran there by myself and asked the driver if he was going to go to the ferry terminal, but he said no.

It went quite close, but it seemed like we had to walk quite a distance after getting off nearby.

When I returned to the taxi stand, the taxi for the people in front of us had just arrived. They kindly told us that even if you wait, a taxi doesn't come right away. They had noticed this and made a reservation by phone. We thought it was a reservation, but luckily, another taxi came, and we somehow managed to reach the ferry terminal. The ferry terminal was still new and clean, and there were more people than we expected.

I had watched a couple in their 30s called "Kubotabi" introduce the Tokyo Kitakyushu Ferry from Yokosuka on YouTube, and we had wanted to ride it.

At the terminal, they were selling "Yokosuka Navy Curry Bread." The name alone made me want to try it, so I bought two beers and two curry breads, but it was late at night, and I felt a bit full, so I couldn't finish it. My husband happily ate the rest.

By the way, about the airfare I received on the wedding day, when I asked my younger brother about it on Line the day before, it seemed like he had just read my message and ignored it. However, the next day, my brother replied with just a "?"

This was even more of a "?".

I thought he was playing dumb, but it seemed he really didn't know, and he mentioned his niece's name, "Isn't it S?".

If it was my niece, I had to give it back even more.

I sent Line messages to both my niece's brother, T-chan, and my niece, S-chan, who had her wedding the day before, and they both confessed.

The culprit (?) was really my niece, S-chan.

In fact, when my niece, S-chan, came to Auckland, I paid for her airfare.

Although my family said they would come, no one came to Auckland except for my parents and their first grandchild, who was a child at the time.

I had no choice but to start a campaign to invite each of my nieces and nephews one by one.

I didn't go back to Japan that often, so I don't remember giving my nieces and nephews New Year's money, so I thought of it as a substitute for the New Year's money I'd accumulated over the years.

My father was still fine when we had our first child/niece so one of the reasons was to have her come with my father.

I wanted my father to take it easy, having finally been freed from years of nursing care.

After our second child/nephew, my father entered a facility and was no longer able to travel.

Then, S-chan came with our third child.

S-chan wanted to repay the favor, so she put a bold amount of money, which is hard to believe for a girl in her 20s, in an envelope and entrusted it to her brother.

What a scary girl -

"I'm your aunt, so I'll just take your kind words.

I'll pay you back," I said,

"In that case, please keep the money for now, and use it when K-kun (the groom), my father and I travel to NZ."

Whose bloodline is this girl really related to...?

She's given me double the gift in return, so I have to give back double again!

Oh...I see (laughs)

Even though she's my niece, I think she'll be something big.

Her aunt is a complete idiot.
